Course Number: MTH 146
 
Description
Introduces the methods of statistics including sampling from normally distributed populations, estimation, regression, testing of hypotheses, and point and interval estimation methods. This course will employ the statistical program of EXCEL. The main focus of the course will not be the derivation of numbers, rather the analysis of the information received from EXCEL.  
 
Prerequisites: Placement recommendation for MTH 146 and Algebra I or equivalent.

Instructor
Tom Carter
Tom Carter has been a teacher at Northwood High School for 10 years. During his tenure at NHS he has taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and Math Analysis. Along with his teaching on the high school level, Mr. Carter is an adjunct professor at Virginia Highlands Community College. At VHCC, Mr. Carter teaches Business Math and Elementary Statistics.  
 
Mr. Carter received his BA in mathematics from Emory and Henry College in 1999. After teaching for 5 years, he began his MA in mathematics from University of Virginia and MA in Administration and Supervision from School of Advanced Studies through University of Phoenix. After completing both degrees in 2007, he began the Educational Doctorate program through UoP. He is planning on finishing the EDD in 2012.
