1. Verify with your Instructional Technology Resource Teacher or school division’s IT staff that you can use “H.323 IP Videoconferencing” equipment either in your building or nearby. For example, most SVETN high schools have one or more suitably equipped classrooms. Some school divisions have portable equipment that can be moved from building to building when scheduled in advance.
2. Register with one or more of the better known coordinating agencies and browse their field trip options. Below are three.
3. Select an event from a provider that a) supports your learning objectives AND b) is available at a convenient date and time.
4. If the provider charges a fee, complete SVETN’s on-line application for a Virtual Field Trip Class Scholarship.
HERE ARE GUIDELINES THAT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS MUST OBSERVE.
- Be specific as to which field trip you want; however you may identify an alternate choice.
- Make your arrangements well ahead; a month or more may be necessary.
- Limit your requests to one in the fall and one in the spring.
- Maximize resources; combine several classes into one Virtual Field Trip.
- Justify each request clearly in terms of learning objectives.
- Ask the provider’s permission in advance if you want to record the field trip.
